## Definition

Let $\Omega$ be a [[sample space|0W7NFW23RF]] of a random experiment.
An outcome of the experiment is an [[element|0EZ758XE73]] $\omega$ of $\Omega$.

## Remarks

Two different outcomes cannot both happen in one trial.
An outcome $\omega$ gives the event $\{\omega\}$, an elementary event. An outcome and an event are different things: an [[event|00SQGJNRTB]] is a set of outcomes.
For a roll of a die, the outcomes are $1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6$, and "the result is even" is the event $\{2, 4, 6\}$, not an outcome.

## Explanations

### L1 human

An outcome is one thing that can happen.
When you toss two coins, "heads then tails" is one outcome, and there are four outcomes in total.
