Chebyshev functions

Summary

The Chebyshev functions ϑ(x)\vartheta(x) and ψ(x)\psi(x) count the prime numbers up to xx with the weight log⁡p\log p. The first sums log⁡p\log p over primes p≤xp \le x, and the second also counts the prime powers pk≤xp^k \le x. They are easier to handle analytically than the prime-counting function π(x)\pi(x), and the prime number theorem is equivalent to ψ(x)∼x\psi(x) \sim x.
