statement proposition

Composition of continuous maps is continuous

Statement

Let XX, YY and ZZ be topological spaces. Let f ⁣:X→Yf \colon X \to Y and g ⁣:Y→Zg \colon Y \to Z be continuous maps. Then the composition g∘f ⁣:X→Zg \circ f \colon X \to Z is continuous.

Remarks

Proof: for each open set WW of ZZ, (g∘f)−1(W)=f−1(g−1(W))(g \circ f)^{-1}(W) = f^{-1}(g^{-1}(W)). The set g−1(W)g^{-1}(W) is open in YY, so its preimage under ff is open in XX. For example, x↦sin⁡(x2)x \mapsto \sin(x^2) is continuous on R\mathbb{R}, because x↦x2x \mapsto x^2 and sin⁡\sin are continuous.

Explanations

L1 human

If you do one continuous operation and then another one, the result is continuous. Small changes in the input give small changes after the first step, and then small changes after the second step.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
