Compressibility
Summary
The compressibility of a substance is the relative decrease of its volume per unit increase of pressure. It depends on the process, and the two standard cases are the isothermal compressibility and the isentropic (adiabatic) compressibility . Its inverse is the bulk modulus. Compressibility enters the thermodynamic stability conditions, the relation between heat capacities, and the speed of sound.
