Direct stiffness method
Summary
The direct stiffness method computes the displacements and member forces of a framed structure, such as a truss or a frame. It assembles the stiffness of each member into one global stiffness matrix. The unknowns are the displacements of the joints, and the equations are the force balances at the joints. It is the matrix method used in structural analysis programs and the simplest case of the finite element method in structural mechanics.
