Drag coefficient
Summary
The drag coefficient is a dimensionless number that measures the drag force on a body moving through a fluid. It compares the drag with the dynamic pressure of the flow times a reference area of the body. By dynamic similarity it depends only on the shape of the body and on dimensionless numbers such as the Reynolds number and the Mach number. It lets measurements on a model in a wind tunnel predict the drag on a full-size car, plane or ship.
