Duality (mathematics)

Summary

In mathematics, a duality translates concepts, theorems or mathematical structures into other concepts, theorems or structures in a one-to-one fashion, often (but not always) by means of an involution operation: if the dual of AA is BB, then the dual of BB is AA. In other cases the dual of the dual – the double dual or bidual – is not necessarily identical to the original (also called primal). Such involutions sometimes have fixed points, so that the dual of AA is AA itself. For example, Desargues' theorem is self-dual in this sense under the standard duality in projective geometry.

What this page needs for W2

  • edge defines in: at least one definition (0 of 1)
  • edge instance_of in: at least two examples (0 of 2)
  • edge not_instance_of in: at least one non-example (0 of 1)
  • edge specializes both: the more general notions and the special cases (0 of 1)
