Ffowcs Williams–Hawkings equation
Summary
The Ffowcs Williams–Hawkings equation describes the sound produced by a flow around solid surfaces that move, such as rotor blades and propellers. It extends Lighthill's acoustic analogy to a fluid that contains moving boundaries. Generalised functions concentrated on the surface turn the boundary into explicit sound sources. It is the standard basis of the prediction of rotor and fan noise.
