Figure of the Earth
Summary
The figure of the Earth is the size and shape of the Earth, described by a mathematical model. The usual models form a hierarchy: a sphere, an oblate reference ellipsoid, and the geoid. Each model is more accurate and more complicated than the previous one. The choice of model fixes how coordinates, distances and heights are computed.
