Finite strain theory
Summary
Finite strain theory describes deformations of a body with no assumption that displacements or rotations are small. Its kinematic tools are the deformation gradient, the Cauchy–Green tensors and finite strain measures such as the Green–Lagrange tensor. It is needed for rubber, soft tissue, metal forming and any problem where shapes change a lot. It is the kinematic basis of nonlinear elasticity.
