M-theory
Summary
M-theory is a conjectured eleven-dimensional quantum theory that unifies the five consistent ten-dimensional superstring theories. Edward Witten proposed it in 1995, after evidence that the five string theories are related to each other by dualities. Its low-energy limit is eleven-dimensional supergravity, and it contains extended objects of dimension two and five, the M2-brane and the M5-brane. No complete formulation of the theory is known.
