Matsubara frequency

Summary

Matsubara frequencies are the discrete frequencies that appear when quantum statistical mechanics at temperature TT is written in imaginary time. In this formalism the time variable runs over an interval of length β=1/(kBT)\beta = 1/(k_B T), and bosonic quantities are periodic in it while fermionic quantities are antiperiodic. Their Fourier series therefore use the frequencies 2πn/β2\pi n / \beta for bosons and (2n+1)π/β(2n+1)\pi/\beta for fermions, n∈ℤn \in \Z. Sums over these frequencies, computed by the residue theorem, produce the Bose–Einstein and Fermi–Dirac occupation factors.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
