Orbital perturbation
Summary
An orbital perturbation is a departure of a motion from a Kepler orbit, caused by forces other than the inverse-square attraction of one central body. Typical causes are the pull of other bodies, the flattening of the central body, atmospheric drag and radiation pressure. Perturbations explain the slow turning of planetary orbits and the drift of satellite orbits, and they are studied through the change of the osculating elements. See the definition.
