Classical thermodynamics, heat transfer Laws of thermodynamics Concept
Perpetual motion
Summary
Perpetual motion is the running of a hypothetical machine that would deliver work forever in a way that the laws of thermodynamics forbid. A machine of the first kind would create energy, against the first law of thermodynamics. A machine of the second kind would turn heat from a single source fully into work, against the second law of thermodynamics. The impossibility of such machines is a classical way to state the laws of thermodynamics.
