Physical cosmology
Summary
Physical cosmology is the study of the universe as a whole: its large-scale structure, its expansion, its contents and its history. It applies general relativity, nuclear and particle physics and statistical physics to the universe on the largest scales, and tests the resulting models against observations. Its standard model describes an expanding universe that was hot and dense in the past.
