Recombination
Summary
In cosmology, recombination is the epoch when free electrons and nuclei first combined into neutral atoms, mainly hydrogen. It happened when the universe had cooled to about K, at a redshift of about , some years after the Big Bang. Soon after it, photons stopped scattering on free electrons, and the light released then is the cosmic microwave background.
