Regular variation

Summary

A positive function ff on (0,∞)(0, \infty) is regularly varying if f(ax)/f(x)f(ax)/f(x) has a positive finite limit as x→∞x \to \infty for every a>0a > 0. The limit is then always a power aρa^\rho, and f(x)=xρL(x)f(x) = x^\rho L(x) with LL a slowly varying function. So regularly varying functions behave like powers up to a slowly varying factor. They are the natural comparison functions in Karamata's Tauberian theorem.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
