Renormalization
Summary
Renormalization is the set of methods that remove the infinities of quantum field theory by expressing predictions in terms of measured parameters. One first regularizes the theory with a cutoff. Then the bare parameters of the Lagrangian are made to depend on the cutoff so that physical quantities have finite limits. A theory is renormalizable when finitely many such parameters suffice at every order of perturbation theory.
