Richards equation
Summary
The Richards equation describes the movement of water in an unsaturated soil, where the pores hold both water and air. It combines conservation of water with Darcy's law, in which the hydraulic conductivity depends on how wet the soil is. It is a nonlinear, possibly degenerate, parabolic equation. It is the basic model of infiltration and drainage in hydrology.
