Weakly compact cardinal

Summary

A weakly compact cardinal is an uncountable cardinal κ\kappa for which the infinite Ramsey theorem holds at κ\kappa. This means that every colouring of the pairs of elements of κ\kappa with two colours has a homogeneous set of size κ\kappa. Weakly compact cardinals are inaccessible and even Mahlo. The name comes from an equivalent property: a compactness theorem for the infinitary logic ℒκ,κ\mathcal{L}_{\kappa, \kappa} in the case of theories with at most κ\kappa sentences. Every measurable cardinal is weakly compact.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
