Mechanics of deformable solids Plasticity Concept
Work hardening
Summary
Work hardening, also called strain hardening, is the increase of the stress needed for further plastic deformation as a material is deformed plastically. In plasticity models it appears as a yield surface that grows or moves with the plastic strain. In metals it comes from the multiplication and tangling of dislocations.
