Sequences, series, summability Series: basic notions Example
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + ⋯
Builds on Riemann zeta functionZeta function regularizationRamanujan summationAbel summationCesàro summation
Example
The series of the positive integers is Its -th partial sum is , which tends to . So it is a divergent series.
Remarks
It is not summable by Cesàro summation, since the averages of also tend to . It is not Abel summable either: for , , which tends to as . Zeta function regularization assigns it the value . For , , where is the Riemann zeta function, and the series of the example is formally the case ; the analytic continuation of has . Ramanujan summation also gives . The value is not a sum in the usual sense: the partial sums are all positive and grow without bound.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
