Additive character

Summary

An additive character of a ring or field RR is a character of the additive group (R,+)(R, +). It is a map ψ\psi to the nonzero complex numbers with ψ(x+y)=ψ(x)ψ(y)\psi(x + y) = \psi(x)\psi(y). The name contrasts it with a multiplicative character, which is a character of the group of units R×R^\times. Additive characters of finite fields are the building blocks of exponential sums, Gauss sums and the discrete Fourier transform on 𝔽q\F_q. In Mathlib, an additive character of an additive monoid AA with values in a monoid MM is a map ψ ⁣:A→M\psi \colon A \to M with ψ(0)=1\psi(0) = 1 and ψ(a+b)=ψ(a)ψ(b)\psi(a + b) = \psi(a)\psi(b).

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)
