Adiabatic flame temperature
Summary
The adiabatic flame temperature is the temperature that the products of a combustion reach when no heat is lost to the surroundings. It follows from an energy balance at constant pressure. The enthalpy of the products at that temperature equals the enthalpy of the reactants at the start. It is an upper bound for the temperature of a real flame of the same mixture. It is a basic number for the design of burners and engines and a key parameter in combustion theory. See the definition.
