Combustion theory
Summary
Combustion theory is the mathematical study of flows in which a fuel burns. It couples a fast exothermic chemical reaction, whose rate depends strongly on temperature, with the transport of heat and species by convection and diffusion. The resulting equations are nonlinear reaction–diffusion systems coupled to fluid dynamics. Their main solutions are flames, ignition and extinction events, and detonations.
