Affine morphism
Builds on Morphism of schemesAffine scheme
Definition
A morphism of schemes is affine if has a cover by open affine subschemes with each affine.
Remarks
If is affine, then is affine for every open affine subscheme of . Example: every morphism is affine; take the cover of by itself, with preimage . Example: a closed immersion is affine, since over it is for an ideal . Non-example: for a field , the morphism is not affine. The only open affine of is the whole space, and its preimage is not an affine scheme. Its ring of global functions is , whose spectrum also contains the origin.
