Almost sure convergence

Definition

Let X,X1,X2,…X, X_1, X_2, \dots be real random variables on one probability space (Ω,F,P)(\Omega, \mathcal{F}, P). The sequence (Xn)(X_n) converges almost surely to XX if P({ω∈Ω:lim⁡n→∞Xn(ω)=X(ω)})=1.P\left(\left\{\omega \in \Omega : \lim_{n \to \infty} X_n(\omega) = X(\omega)\right\}\right) = 1. One writes Xn→XX_n \to X a.s. or Xn→a.s.XX_n \xrightarrow{\text{a.s.}} X.

Remarks

The set in the definition is an event, because the XnX_n and XX are measurable. An equivalent condition: for each ε>0\varepsilon > 0, P(∣Xn−X∣>ε for infinitely many n)=0P(|X_n - X| > \varepsilon \text{ for infinitely many } n) = 0. The limit is unique up to equality almost surely. The strong law of large numbers is a result about almost sure convergence.

Explanations

L1 human

Almost sure convergence means that, apart from a set of outcomes of probability 00, each run of the experiment gives a convergent sequence of numbers.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
