Analytic function

Definition

Let II be an open interval and let f ⁣:I→Rf \colon I \to \mathbb{R}. The function ff is analytic at a∈Ia \in I if there are r>0r > 0 and a power series ∑cn(x−a)n\sum c_n (x - a)^n that converges to f(x)f(x) for all xx with ∣x−a∣<r|x - a| < r. It is analytic on II if it is analytic at each point of II.

Remarks

An analytic function is smooth, and its power series at aa is its Taylor series at aa. Polynomials, the exponential function, sine, and cosine are analytic on R\mathbb{R}. A smooth function need not be analytic. See the smooth non-analytic function. Mathlib defines analyticity at a point as AnalyticAt.

Explanations

L1 human

An analytic function equals a convergent power series near each point. So it is determined near a point by its derivatives at that point.

What this node needs for W2
  • edge instance_of in: one example (0 of 1)
  • edge not_instance_of in: one non-example that fails one clause (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

What this needs

To read this node, read these 5 nodes in this order. The foundations come first, and the list ends with this node.

Each node uses the nodes above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows the evidence level, and the box also gives it as text. The list below has the same nodes.
