statement corollary

Angles in the same segment are equal

Statement

Let AA, BB, CC and DD be distinct concyclic points of the Euclidean plane R2\mathbb{R}^2. Let ∡\measuredangle be the oriented angle, with values in R/2πZ\mathbb{R} / 2\pi\mathbb{Z}. Then 2 ∡ACB=2 ∡ADB.2 \, \measuredangle ACB = 2 \, \measuredangle ADB. For the unoriented angles: if CC and DD are on the same side of the line ABAB, then ∠ACB=∠ADB\angle ACB = \angle ADB. If they are on opposite sides, then ∠ACB+∠ADB=π\angle ACB + \angle ADB = \pi.

Remarks

The statement follows from the inscribed angle theorem: both sides are equal to the oriented angle ∡AOB\measuredangle AOB at the centre OO. The factor 22 is necessary. It removes the difference of π\pi between points on the two arcs. The case of opposite sides says that the opposite angles of a convex cyclic quadrilateral add up to π\pi.

Explanations

L1 human

A segment of a circle is the region between a chord ABAB and one of its arcs. From every point of that arc, the chord ABAB is seen under the same angle. From the other arc, it is seen under the supplementary angle.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

What this needs

To read this node, read these 6 nodes in this order. The foundations come first, and the list ends with this node.

Each node uses the nodes above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows the evidence level, and the box also gives it as text. The list below has the same nodes.
