Arcsine

Definition

The arcsine is the function arcsin⁡ ⁣:[−1,1]→[−π/2,π/2]\arcsin \colon [-1, 1] \to [-\pi/2, \pi/2] such that, for each x∈[−1,1]x \in [-1, 1], arcsin⁡x\arcsin x is the unique y∈[−π/2,π/2]y \in [-\pi/2, \pi/2] with sin⁡y=x\sin y = x.

Remarks

The sine is strictly increasing and continuous on [−π/2,π/2][-\pi/2, \pi/2], with range [−1,1][-1, 1]. So arcsin⁡\arcsin is well defined and continuous. For example, arcsin⁡0=0\arcsin 0 = 0, arcsin⁡1=π/2\arcsin 1 = \pi/2, and arcsin⁡12=π/6\arcsin \frac{1}{2} = \pi/6. The function is odd and strictly increasing. Mathlib defines Real.arcsin on all of R\mathbb{R}, constant outside [−1,1][-1, 1].

Explanations

L1 human

The arcsine of xx is the angle between −π/2-\pi/2 and π/2\pi/2 whose sine is xx.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

What depends on this
