Arity
Builds on FunctionCartesian product
Definition
Let and be sets and let be an integer. Write for the Cartesian product of copies of , the set of -tuples of elements of . Here is the set whose only element is the empty tuple.
- A function has arity .
- A relation has arity .
A function or relation of arity is called -ary.
Remarks
Example: the map from to has arity , because its domain is .
Non-example: the map , , has arity and not , because the arity counts the factors of the domain, not of the codomain.
The arity of a function depends on how its domain is written as a power. A map on can be seen as a binary function on or as a unary function on the set . The words nullary, unary, binary and ternary are used for arities , , and .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
