Artin–Schreier theory

Summary

Artin–Schreier theory describes the cyclic extensions of degree pp of a field of characteristic p>0p > 0. Each of them is generated by a root of a polynomial xp−x−ax^p - x - a. It plays the role that Kummer theory plays in degree nn prime to the characteristic, where xn−ax^n - a is used instead.
