Associated bundle

Summary

Let P→BP \to B be a principal bundle with group GG, and let GG act on a space FF. The associated bundle P×GFP \times_G F is a fiber bundle over BB with fiber FF. It is built by gluing copies of FF along BB with the same twisting as PP. In this way one principal bundle produces many bundles: vector bundles, sphere bundles, bundles of frames and so on. For example, the tangent bundle of a manifold is associated to its frame bundle through the action of GLn(ℝ)GL_n(\R) on ℝn\R^n.
