Atomic lattice

Builds on LatticeLeast elementAtom

Definition

Let LL be a lattice with a least element 00. LL is atomic if for every b∈Lb \in L with b≠0b \ne 0 there is an atom aa of LL with a≤ba \le b.

Remarks

The same definition applies to any partially ordered set with a least element. Example: every finite lattice LL is atomic. For b≠0b \ne 0, the set {x∈L:0<x≤b}\set{x \in L : 0 < x \le b} is finite and nonempty, so it has a minimal element, and a minimal element of this set is an atom. Example: ℕ>0\N_{>0} ordered by divisibility is atomic, since every n>1n > 1 has a prime divisor. Non-example: the chain [0,1][0, 1] with its usual order is a lattice with least element 00 and no atoms, so the condition fails for b=1b = 1.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
