Functional analysis Normed and Banach spaces Concept

Bidual and canonical embedding

Summary

The bidual X∗∗X^{**} of a normed space XX is the dual of its continuous dual space X∗X^*. The canonical embedding J ⁣:X→X∗∗J \colon X \to X^{**} sends a vector xx to the functional "evaluate at xx". By the Hahn–Banach theorem, JJ is a linear isometry, so every normed space sits inside its bidual. Spaces for which JJ is onto are the reflexive spaces.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
