Bihari–LaSalle inequality
Builds on Grönwall's inequality
Statement
Let , let be continuous, and let . Let be continuous and non-decreasing, with for . Define for , and let . Assume that Then for each with ,
Remarks
The function is continuous and strictly increasing with , so is defined on . Proof idea: let . Then , , and since is non-decreasing. So , and integration gives . For one gets and the bound , which is Grönwall's inequality with constant . For and one gets while ; the restriction on matches the blow-up of the solution of .

For a student
The inequality is the nonlinear version of the integral form of Grönwall's inequality. It gives a priori bounds for solutions of nonlinear equations and estimates of the time of existence. With it gives the Osgood uniqueness criterion, which relaxes the Lipschitz condition in uniqueness theorems.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
