BPP
Builds on Probabilistic Turing machineComplexity classFormal language
Definition
A language is in BPP if there are a polynomial and a probabilistic Turing machine such that:
- on every input and for every outcome of its coin flips, halts within steps and outputs or ;
- for every , ;
- for every , .
The probabilities are over the fair coin flips of .
Remarks
Example: let be the set of triples of matrices over with . The machine picks two independent uniform vectors and accepts if for both, which takes steps for each. If , then always accepts. If , then has a nonzero row, and for at most half of the vectors , so accepts with probability at most . So is in BPP; this test is Freivalds' algorithm.
Non-example: a machine that accepts each with probability and each with probability fails clause 2. Machines with such a vanishing gap define the class PP, which contains BPP.
The constants and can be replaced by and for any fixed , or by and for any polynomial . This follows by running many times and taking the majority vote, with the Chernoff bound. Equivalently, if there are a polynomial-time deterministic machine and a polynomial with the following property. For every and a uniform , the output is if and if with probability at least .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
