Mechanics of deformable solids Nonlinear elasticity Concept

Cauchy elastic material

Summary

A Cauchy elastic material is a material whose stress at each point depends only on the current state of deformation there, through the deformation gradient. The stress does not depend on the path by which the deformation was reached, nor on time or on strain rate. It is the most general notion of an elastic solid in nonlinear continuum mechanics, and it contains hyperelastic materials as a special case.
