Coefficient of performance
Summary
The coefficient of performance (COP) measures how well a refrigerator or a heat pump uses the work put into it. For a refrigerator it is the heat removed from the cold side per unit of work. For a heat pump it is the heat delivered to the warm side per unit of work. Unlike a thermal efficiency, it is usually larger than . Its largest possible value, reached by a reversible cycle, is fixed by the two temperatures.
