Thermal efficiency
Summary
The thermal efficiency of a heat engine is the fraction of the heat it takes in that it turns into net work. It is a number between and , and by the second law it is always strictly less than . Carnot's theorem shows that between reservoirs at temperatures and it can be at most . For refrigerators and heat pumps the analogous measure is the coefficient of performance.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
