Definition
Let be a field and let be a coalgebra over . A right -comodule is a vector space over with a linear map , the coaction, such that:
- as maps .
- , where is identified with .
A left -comodule is defined in the same way with a map .
Remarks
Example: is a right comodule over itself with ; clauses 1 and 2 are coassociativity and the counit law. Example: let with and , and let be a vector space graded by . Then for is a coaction: both sides of clause 1 give , and clause 2 gives . Every right -comodule arises in this way. Non-example: for , the zero map satisfies clause 1 but fails clause 2. A morphism of comodules is a linear map with .
