Completely positive map
Builds on Positive elementMatrix ring
Definition
Let and be C*-algebras, and let be a linear map. For , let be the matrix ring of matrices with entries in , which is again a C*-algebra. Let be the map . The map is -positive if sends positive elements of to positive elements of . It is completely positive if it is -positive for every .
Remarks
Equivalently, is positive for every . Every -homomorphism is completely positive, since is a -homomorphism and maps to .
Example: for a fixed complex matrix , the map , , is completely positive. Indeed with , and .
Non-example: the transpose on is positive, since and have the same eigenvalues. It is not -positive: the matrix , with the matrix units, equals with , so it is positive. But is the swap matrix, which has the eigenvalue .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
