Convergence of filters

Definition
Let be a topological space, let be a filter on , and let . Let be the filter of neighbourhoods of . The filter converges to , written , if . Then is a limit of .
Remarks
For a map from a set and a filter on , the image filter is . One says that along if .
Example: let be a sequence in , and let be the family of sets that contain for all large . Then is a filter, and if and only if the sequence converges to , since both mean that each neighbourhood of contains for all large .
Example: the neighbourhood filter converges to , and so does the principal filter .
Non-example: in , let be the filter of sets that contain an interval . For each , the neighbourhood contains no such interval, so does not converge to .
A space is Hausdorff if and only if every filter on it has at most one limit.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
