Coordinate space

Description

Let FF be a field and let n≥0n \ge 0 be an integer. The coordinate space FnF^n is the set of nn-tuples (x1,…,xn)(x_1, \dots, x_n) with xi∈Fx_i \in F. It is a vector space over FF with the operations (x1,…,xn)+(y1,…,yn)=(x1+y1,…,xn+yn),a(x1,…,xn)=(ax1,…,axn).(x_1, \dots, x_n) + (y_1, \dots, y_n) = (x_1 + y_1, \dots, x_n + y_n), \qquad a(x_1, \dots, x_n) = (ax_1, \dots, ax_n). Its zero vector is (0,…,0)(0, \dots, 0).

Remarks

The space FnF^n has dimension nn, with the standard basis e1,…,ene_1, \dots, e_n. More generally, for a set II, the set FIF^I of all functions I→FI \to F is a vector space with pointwise operations. Each nn-dimensional vector space over FF is isomorphic to FnF^n. The real spaces R2\R^2 and R3\R^3 model the plane and ordinary space.

Explanations

L1 human

The coordinate space FnF^n is the space of lists of nn numbers. We add two lists position by position, and we scale a list by scaling each entry. Every finite-dimensional vector space looks like one of these spaces after we choose a basis.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • field same_as: the identifiers in the databases (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

What depends on this

2 nodes use this node, directly or through other nodes.
