Debye length
Summary
The Debye length is the distance over which mobile charges screen an electric field in a plasma or an electrolyte. Beyond a few Debye lengths, the electric potential of a charge is exponentially small, because opposite charges gather around it. It grows with temperature and decreases with the density of charge carriers. It sets the scale of electric double layers at surfaces and of collective effects in plasmas.
