Declination

Summary

Declination is the latitude coordinate of the equatorial coordinate system. It is the angle of a direction north or south of the celestial equator, from −90∘-90^\circ to +90∘+90^\circ. With right ascension it fixes a direction in the sky, and with the observer's latitude it decides whether a star rises and sets.
