Equatorial coordinate system
Summary
The equatorial coordinate system is the celestial coordinate system built on the celestial equator, the projection of the Earth's equator onto the sky. Its coordinates are declination, the angle north or south of the celestial equator, and right ascension, measured eastward from the March equinox. Star catalogues use it because the coordinates of a star change only slowly.
