Deformation retract

Summary

A subspace AA of a space XX is a deformation retract when XX can be deformed continuously onto AA. At the end of the deformation, the points of AA are back where they started. Then the inclusion of AA in XX is a homotopy equivalence, so AA and XX have the same homotopy invariants. Deformation retractions are the main tool for replacing a space by a simpler one of the same homotopy type.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
