Directed-complete partial order

Definition
Let be a partially ordered set. It is a directed-complete partial order, or dcpo, if every directed subset has a supremum in . Here is directed if it is nonempty and every two elements of have an upper bound in .
Remarks
A dcpo with a least element is called pointed, and is often simply called a cpo. Example: the set of partial functions from to , ordered by inclusion of graphs. If is a directed family, any two members agree where both are defined, so is again a partial function and is the supremum. Non-example: with its usual order is not a dcpo, because itself is directed and has no upper bound. Every finite poset is a dcpo, since a finite directed set has a greatest element. Equivalently, by a theorem that uses the axiom of choice, a poset is a dcpo if and only if every nonempty chain has a supremum.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
