Definition

Let XX be a real semimartingale on a filtered probability space. The Doléans-Dade exponential of XX is the unique semimartingale Z=ℰ(X)Z = \mathcal{E}(X) such that, for all t≥0t \ge 0, Zt=1+∫0tZs− dXs.Z_t = 1 + \int_0^t Z_{s-} \, dX_s. Here the integral is the stochastic integral of Itô calculus. The process Zs−Z_{s-} is the left limit of ZZ at ss.

Remarks

If XX is continuous, then ℰ(X)t=exp⁡(Xt−X0−12[X]t)\mathcal{E}(X)_t = \exp\left(X_t - X_0 - \tfrac12 [X]_t\right), where [X][X] is the quadratic variation of XX. In general, ℰ(X)t=exp⁡(Xt−X0−12[X]tc)∏0<s≤t(1+ΔXs)e−ΔXs\mathcal{E}(X)_t = \exp\left(X_t - X_0 - \tfrac12 [X]^c_t\right) \prod_{0 < s \le t} (1 + \Delta X_s) e^{-\Delta X_s}, where [X]c[X]^c is the continuous part of [X][X] and ΔXs=Xs−Xs−\Delta X_s = X_s - X_{s-}. Example: let BB be a Brownian motion and X=σBX = \sigma B with a constant σ\sigma. Then Zt=exp⁡(σBt−12σ2t)Z_t = \exp(\sigma B_t - \tfrac12 \sigma^2 t), and Itô's lemma gives dZt=σZt dBt=Zt dXtdZ_t = \sigma Z_t \, dB_t = Z_t \, dX_t. Non-example: Wt=exp⁡(σBt)W_t = \exp(\sigma B_t) fails the equation, since Itô's lemma gives dWt=Wt dXt+12σ2Wt dtdW_t = W_t \, dX_t + \tfrac12 \sigma^2 W_t \, dt. If XX is a continuous local martingale, then ℰ(X)\mathcal{E}(X) is a positive local martingale and hence a supermartingale. It is a true martingale under Novikov's condition E[exp⁡(12[X]∞)]<∞E\left[\exp\left(\tfrac12 [X]_\infty\right)\right] < \infty.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
